disenchant (v.)

"free from enchantment, deliver from the power of charms or spells," 1580s, from Middle French desenchanter (13c.), from des- (see dis-) + enchanter "to enchant," from Latin incantare "to enchant, fix a spell upon" (see enchant). Related: Disenchanted; disenchanting. Carlyle coined disenchantress (1831).
