Introduction

Many viral infections--such as measles, chickenpox, and rubella--result in rashes, spots, or sores on the skin. Herpesviruses often produce rashes and sores (see Section 17, Chapter 198). However, in two common infections, warts and molluscum contagiosum, the virus remains solely within the skin.
