Arthur Koestler researched the Jewish Ashkenazi ancestry. From this information he gathered he wrote The Thirteenth Tribe.

Koestler, having been suffering from Parkinson's disease and leukemia, and his wife, Cynthia Jefferies, were found dead in March 3rd 1983, presumed to be a double-suicide by drug overdose (though this Byzantine Catholic site claims in it's short biography of him claims that the reports show inconsistancies, suggesting that he and his wife may have been murdered).
