1. This message contains an action request in para 4. 
 
 
2. MFA followed up our October 7 demarche on elections 
to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council 
with a diplomatic note proposing mutual support for 
Turkish and U.S. candidacies.  The text of the October 7 
note is reproduced in para 3. 
 
 
3. Begin text diplomatic note 2003/DHGY/408560: 
 
 
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of 
Turkey presents its compliments to the Embassy of the 
United States of America and has the honor to propose a 
mutual support agreement between the candidature of 
Turkey for re-election as member of the Council of the 
International Maritime Organization (IMO) under Category 
"C" and the candidature of the United States for re- 
election as member of the Council of the IMO under 
Category "A" at the elections to be held during the 23rd 
Session of the IMO Assembly in London between 24 
November and 5 December 2003. 
 
 
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of 
Turkey avails itself of this opportunity to renew to the 
Embassy of the United States of America the assurances 
of its highest consideration.
