Understanding cables
Every cable message consists of three parts:
  • The top box shows each cables unique reference number, when and by whom it originally was sent, and what its initial classification was.

SUBJECT: JAPAN EXTENDS PEACEKEEPING MISSION IN GOLAN HEIGHTS 
 
ΒΆ1. (U) The Japanese government January 30 decided to extend 
its participation in the U.N. Disengagement Observer Force 
(UNDOF) in the Golan Heights until September 30, 2009.  This 
was a routine extension.  The Japanese have 45 Ground Self 
Defense Force personnel participating in the mission.  They 
provide transportation and logistics assistance.  In April 
they will add an additional officer to their contingent, 
bringing their total to 46.
