Understanding cables

(U) The Secretariat of the South Asian Association for 
Regional Cooperation (SAARC) will send a delegation to the 
Islamabad Regional Economic Cooperation Conference on 
Afghanistan on May 13-14.  Ghulam Dastgir, the Director for 
Pakistan (also the Director for Energy, Tourism, Science and 
Technology), informed Emboff on May 4 that the SAARC 
Secretariat has already confirmed its participation with the 
conference organizers.  Dastgir will be a member of the 
delegation.  Ambassador Sheel Kant Sharma, the Secretary 
General of SAARC, does not plan to attend the Islamabad 
conference.
