(SBU) Pol/Econ chief May 31 delivered reftel demarche 
concerning support for the immediate establishment of the UN 
Democracy Fund to MFA Director for International Organization 
Affairs Ghassan Shaikho.  Shaikho said that Bahrain was proud 
to be a member of the Community of Democracies and the UN 
caucus of democracies.  He promised to review the proposed 
letter to the UNSYG and planned to recommend that Bahrain 
sign it.  He noted, however, that Bahrain would be unable to 
pledge any financial support for the fund.
