Understanding cables
Every cable message consists of three parts:
  • The top box shows each cables unique reference number, when and by whom it originally was sent, and what its initial classification was.

If you find meaningful or important information in a cable, please link directly to its unique reference number. Linking to a specific paragraph in the body of a cable is also possible by copying the appropriate link (to be found at theparagraph symbol). 1.  Mission has received a note from the Permanent Mission of 
South Africa to the United Nations requesting USG support for 
the candidature of Ms. Hazel Edith Gumede Shelton for 
election to the Committee on the Elimination of 
Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) for the term 2007-2010. 
The elections will be held on June 23 2006, in New YorQ 
 
2.  Mission will respond that since the United States is not 
a party to the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of 
Discrimination against Women, the United States cannot 
participate in the election.
