1. (U) SUMMARY.  Pursuant to the request from the Government of 
Afghanistan (GOA), the Government of Pakistan (GOP) has agreed to 
postpone the Regional Economic Cooperation Conference (RECC) 
scheduled for April 24-25, 2008 in Islamabad. END SUMMARY. 
 
2. (U) EconOff met with the Joint Secretary of the 
Economic Affairs Division, Mr. Suhail Rehan, on March 19 to follow up 
on the Afghan request to postpone the upcoming RECC.  Mr. Rehan noted 
that the GOP would "postpone this meeting until the second half of 
2008 to accommodate the GOA's request."  He stated that no 
alternative date has been fixed yet but thought either August or 
October would be the likely timeframe.  Mr. Rehan further stated that 
the GOA would be notified in writing of this postponement on March 
20.
