DEAR VISITOR: Welcome to an experiment in Internet publishing. It began in March, 1999. I am A.R.Yngve. I write books. Some are good. Some are not as good. Some are genre fiction, some are hard to place.
In terms of writing skill and breadth, I rate somewhere between Mickey Spillane and Philip K. Dick. But I can spin a yarn. And all I want is an audience. Readers, recognition, not money. Publishers, on the other hand, are mainly after the money. Which makes it nigh-impossible for new guys like me to get a break. Then at one point, I realized that the Internet makes it possible to sidestep traditional "print" publishers. And, more importantly, to regain the lost bond between storyteller and audience.
The greatest obstacle to making this website was my own fear of the new. After all, it's a whole different medium -- ubiquitous, instant, infinite. Publishing a book on a website is a bit like lending a single copy to millions of people. So how does an Internet publisher get paid? That's a tricky question. But I figured that if the work is good enough, a reward will come one way or the other. You, the readers, decide.
So here it is: READ MY BOOKS FOR FREE.
The site will publish complete texts of finished novels in weekly installments. There's quite a backlist, so the site will start out meaty and grow bigger.
Each book available here can be read for free (only in English). Donations are voluntary, and you won't see me beg. Ever. Only my own writings will be published. I cannot prevent piracy and/or plagiarism, but of course I don't like it -- and it's plain wrong. Respect the writer's effort.
What I can do is to respond to you, the readers. The choice is yours: Read, or don't. See what you like. Tell me what you'd like to read. There is not one story here that wasn't meant to entertain, but that won't mean they don't contain ideas. Tastes differ. So do politics. If you find some of the views expressed here offensive, please don't get into a frothing fury. Relax... it's fiction, man!
I hope those of you who like what you read here will return to the site... to read more books, and perhaps send me your feedback. Just keep it short and simple. It's the cardinal rule of writing.
Enjoy!
A.R. Yngve, July 3, 1999
