Analytical...

My Previous Article's World-Wide Poll Is Tabulated! (film at eleven:)

And the survey says...

----------------------------------------------------------------- ---------

Which of the following best describes your "traveling" routine?

I'll Keep At It Till I Succeed----------- An impressive 100% went to this response.

I'll Try A While And See How It Goes----------- 0% here, duh.

I'll Give It A Shot But I Don't Think It Will Happen----------- Still 0%.

No How, No Way----------- Gee, is zero actually a percent? Seems like a contradiction.

Most interesting and on-the-money comment:

"I want to travel but I think I'm a little afraid of the initial leaving the body; despite the fact that I desire it."

----------------------------------------------------------------- ---------

Your Best Half-Hour Is _______ ?

or

I Have No Idea But I'll Try To Figure It Out

This was "split right up the middle" (as if there is another way to split up 100% evenly:).

50% responded with a half hour that fell between 4:00am and 5:00am-ish.

And 50% responded with...I Have No Idea But I'll Try To Figure It Out.

Most interesting and on-the-money comment:

"I've certainly had the experience of hitting that relaxation wave. The time is probably around 4-5am because the alarm ALWAYS goes off right after I get to sleep!"

----------------------------------------------------------------- ---------

Your Position For Traveling Is _______ ?

25% back

25% left side

12.5% right side

and a position I could never get used to...12.5% stomach

Most interesting, albeit rated "x", answer (grin):

"I also like it on my back, on my knees...and oh...no sly answers...sorry. :)"

----------------------------------------------------------------- ---------

Regarding my section on "charging up the vibe":

I've Felt This And I Know What You Mean----------- Garnered 34% of your votes.

Never Done This But I Will Now----------- Clocked in at 65%.

Not Gonna Try This And You Can't Make Me----------- Zip percentage points.

What The Heck Are You Talkin' 'Bout Alan?----------- Thankfully, this only confused 1%.

Most interesting and on-the-money comment:

"It was an excellent, insightful, and fascinating article Alan, but I have nothing to say, so I won't, and you can't make me!!!"

Frog Span

When I was about eleven years old, I came across a book at the library that briefly spoke of a man named Oliver Fox. The title of the book (not related to the link I just provided:) escapes me and it wasn't a terribly informative volume, but it did contain one description, by Mr. Fox, that I have never forgotten and that I've never heard anyone else mention. (Side Pondering: It's funny how we retain some thoughts while others slip away. You just never know when you're making a memory.) He described a "frog span" that would often occur just prior to his "travels" (traveling is my word for the nonphysical experience, not his). For those of you unfamiliar with the term, frog span refers to the small "eggs" deposited enmasse by a female frog. What Mr. Fox meant by this statement was that he would "see in his mind" a moving, rolling mass of tiny, round "eggs" just prior to a traveling event. I know this doesn't sound particularly exciting, but to me, at a time when I was searching for answers of my oddity, it was a revelation. I too, had experienced "frog span". Since the age of eight, I had been calling it "dots"! It suddenly occurred to me, because of this one description uttered by Mr. Fox, that there were probably many common experiences, that added up to the whole of the travel. This triggered me to reason, that by homing in on these common experiences, a travel could be initiated and controlled by any individual who desired to do so! This, of course, resulted in my study of traveling for the last 27 years (or so:), and the online book I offer to get you started on your own travels.

So, what is this phenomenon called "frog span/dots"? Your guess is as good as mine (you probably thought that after my long winded buildup, I actually had a clear-cut answer:). Per the title of this section (hypothesis: conjecture put forward to account for certain facts and used as a basis for further investigation by which it may be proved or disproved...Oxford American Dictionary), I can only describe "dots" to you and give you my thoughts upon it. In this way, you may recognize it as another clue towards your success at traveling. As I've stated before, I am trying to point out to you, my friends, the many common puzzle pieces of traveling. It's the ol', "you-too-can-be-an-expert-if ya-wanna" approach. The more you recognize about the event, the better prepared you are to control it!

Frog Span/Dots And How To Use It:

Tiny points of light varying in intensity and moving as one mass. The size of the total mass may vary in size but the dots always remain the same size. Its direction may be controlled by focused thought. The size and intensity of the mass increases as travel conditions become optimum. The dots may be "seen" either behind closed eyes OR with eyes open in the dark.

As you know from my online book, I harp upon the connection between physical body aspects and non-physical aspects that add up to the whole of the travel. Controlled nonphysical separation requires the physical to cooperate. This involves many steps from relaxation techniques to full blown "physical" sleep. Once this is accomplished, the non-physical aspects of controlled action and intent, may then, come into play. With regard to frog span/dots, I interpret the phenomenon as both a physical and nonphysical aspect. It seems to me, that if I may see these dots with my eyes open or closed, the event is likely occurring in my brain. Having said this, however, the dots, do indeed, mirror certain "characteristics" that may be observed while traveling. And so, in keeping with the name of this section, if you've experienced "dots" (or not) and have an opinion, you tell me what it is. For my part, I'll tell you how to use it.

It is not something you invoke or practice, but rather, an occasionally observed event prior to traveling. When it occurs, focus your complete attention upon the moving and rolling dots. Gently prod them to move in a direction you choose. Try to move them in a smooth arc rather than with jerky jumps from one spot to another. If you successfully concentrate on moving the dots, allowing yourself to be immersed in the task, after about ten to fifteen minutes, you will find yourself "prepped" to initiate a travel. You will have maintained an alert and focused intent and allowed the physical to reach the sleep edge, that is required for separation of the nonphysical.

You explain it. Either a physical explanation (but I know most, so be creative:) or non-physical explanation is fine. The best of each will be posted with the next article.

Sound Off You Go

In my online book there is sub-section named Tape Me, Baby of a section named Controlled Relaxation Methods. It deals with a method of relaxation that utilizes a tape recording of your voice instructing you to relax. Although I don't usually recommend outside influences to gain an upper hand on your traveling, I have found that the tape method can provide a boost towards informing your subconscious mind of your intent to relax and/or travel (yipes, that was along sentence...almost got a hernia just typing it).

With this in mind (and utilizing the very latest technology, ooh, ahhh), I have created for you, a subliminal-suggestion-theta-spatial-noise .wav file (whoa, hold on thar' Alan...and a "what the heck" (?) just for good measure). Simply stated (for as we know, I am a simpleton), I placed three command phrases on the .wav file and fixed 'em up to both hide them and enhance them, for your subconscious mind. The first command phrase is, "I will quack like a duck whenever I hear the word, doodle". The second command phrase is...(grinning)...had ya going , didn't I? Okay, here are the real stats:

The three command phrases are:

I travel beyond my body...I know when I dream...I know when I travel.

(Don't fret if the following part escapes you....it's just jargon junk explaining the process) These phrases have been "synced" through a level-12 intensity brown spatial-noise generator (it's much like white or pink noise, but I find brown a more relaxing tone). Next, an overlay brain-wave pattern was added. The overlay is generated in the 6-7 hz range, placing it in the theta range of your brain activity. This is a range that is excellent for deep relaxation, meditation, and increased memory and focus. The .wav was mastered at a sample rate of 22050 in 16 bit high quality stereo.

Now, comes your part. You download the file, suggest .wav (307562 bytes), to your hard drive and run it through the program you utilize to play .wav files (well, duh). Set the playback on loop, put on your headphones, adjust the volume and let it do its thing. Try to pick a relaxing time to play the .wav but it will work quite well even as you work or play at your computer (do not, under any circumstances, drive or operate heavy machinery while playing this .wav) (oh gee, and I was planning to go forklifting, yup, I was:). Don't bother with the difficulty of trying to discern the phrases. Trust me, they are there and your subconscious is learning them for later recall as you attempt to travel (you may even find that this .wav file works well, if played DURING your travel attempt). The file will sound similar to pleasing radio static (seems like a contradiction but it's not:) with a rolling effect.

For those of you without "loop" capabilities on your .wav player, I offer two suggestions. First, you could transfer the .wav to cassette by clicking .wav-play over and over until you have enough tape filled up for a session. This, however, can be time consuming as the .wav is only 3.5something seconds long. The more practical second suggestion, is to obtain a copy of Cool Edit. This program, although only shareware until you try and buy, will allow you to load the .wav file and select loop mode for playback (as well as do scads of other really COOL things). Please, let me know of your results.

As always, please write to me anytime regarding your questions, attempts and successes.
