A Marriage Ceremony
by T Polyphilus
The following ceremony is intended to emphasize the liberty of the couple, and the absolute nature of love under will. I have never presided at a wedding using this ritual: it was the text of the ceremony for my own marriage to Sister Sheba in 2004 e.v. We held a "surprise wedding," in the form of a party where the guests did not realize they were being invited to our wedding. Br. Omega Baphomet was the officiant.
O = Officiant
C = Couple
A = All
O: The Prophet writes, "There should be a special feast on the twelfth of August in every year, since it was the marriage of the Beast which made possible the revelation of the New Law. This is not an apology for marriage. Hard cases make bad law."
O: Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.
A: Love is the law, love under will.
O: Marriage is union in love under will. [Brother N.] and [Sister Nn.] have you married each other already?
C: We have.
O: Are you marrying each other now?
C: We are.
O: Will you continue to marry each other henceforth?
C: We will.
O: Having confessed these facts, do you demand to have your marriage recognized by this community?
C: We do.
O: And is it your will to have your marriage recognized by the state?
C: It is.
O: Then your will be done! Witnesses, do your duty.
(They sign marriage document.)
O: Know ye all that [Sister Nn.] and [Brother N.] are united in love under will. There is no law beyond Do what thou wilt.
