TORRE ANNUNZIATA , a seaport of See also:

Campania, See also:Italy, in the See also:province of See also:Naples, on the See also:east of the See also:Bay of Naples, and at the See also:south See also:foot of Mt See also:Vesuvius, 14 M. S.E. of Naples by See also:rail. Pop. (1901), 25,070 (See also:town); 28,o84 (See also:commune). It is on the See also:main See also:line to Battipaglia, at the point of junction of a See also:branch line from Cancello See also:round the east of Vesuvius, and of the branch to Castellammare di Stabia and Gragnano. It has a royal arms factory established by See also:Charles IV., and other ironworks, considerable manufacture of See also:macaroni, See also:paper, breeding of silkworms, and some fishing and See also:shipping. The See also:harbour is protected by moles. Remains attributed to the See also:Roman See also:post-station of Oplontis were discovered in making the railwaybetween Torre del See also:Greco and Torre Annunziata, a little See also:west of the latter, in 1842.
