ROULERS (Flemish Roeselaere) , a See also:town of See also:Belgium, in the See also:province of See also:West See also:Flanders, 13 M. N.W. of Courtrai. Pop. (1904) 24,548. It is one of the See also:oldest communes in Belgium, and was famous for its weavers in the 11th and 12th centuries. Its prosperity depends on the cultivation of See also:flax and the manufacture of See also:linen. The See also:church of St See also:Michael is remarkable for its lofty See also:tower. See also:Baldwin VIII., See also:count of Flanders, died here in 1120, and in 1794 the See also:French under See also:Pichegru defeated the Austrians under See also:Clerfayt.
