MENAGERIE , a collection of See also:

wild animals kept for show or See also:exhibition. The word is particularly applied to travelling exhibitions of wild animals, attached to a See also:circus or other show, " zoological gardens "(q.v.) being the See also:term generally applied to large stationary and permanent exhibitions, arranged on a scientific See also:system. The See also:French menagerie (from See also:menage, O. Fr. mesnage, See also:Lat. mansionaticum, mansio, See also:house, cf. " See also:manage ") originally meant the See also:administration of a See also:household or See also:farm, with See also:special reference to the live stock.
