MAYA , an important tribe and stock of See also:

They were then divided into many nations, See also:chief among them being the Maya proper, the See also:Huastecs, the Tzental, the Pokom, the Mame and the See also:Cakchiquel and See also:Quiche. They were spread over Yucatan, See also:Vera Cruz, See also:Tabasco, See also:Campeche, and See also:Chiapas in Mexico, and over the greater part of See also:Guatemala and See also:Salvador. In See also:civilization the Mayan peoples rivalled the See also:Aztecs.
