Maitland is the centre of the See also:rich agricultural See also:district of the Hunter valley, which produces See also:maize, See also:wheat and other cereals, See also:lucerne, See also:tobacco, See also:fruit and See also:wine; excellent See also:coal also is worked in the vicinity. East Maitland is the see of a See also:Roman See also:Catholic See also:bishop, whose See also:cathedral (St See also:John's), however, is situated in the larger See also:town. Besides this, West Maitland contains several handsome public and commercial buildings.
