LEOMINSTER , a township of See also:

Worcester See also:county, See also:Massachusetts, U.S.A., about 45 M. N.W. of See also:Boston and about 20 M. N. by E. of Worcester. Pop. (1890) 7269; (1900) 12,392, of whom 2827 were See also:foreign-See also:born; (1910 See also:census) 17,580. It is a broken, hilly See also:district, 26.48 sq. m. in See also:area, traversed by the See also:Nashua See also:river, crossed by the See also:Northern See also:Division of the New See also:York, New Haven & See also:Hartford railroad, and by the See also:Fitchburg Division of the Boston & See also:Maine, and connected with Boston, Worcester and other cities by interurban electric lines. Along the N.E. border and mostly in the township of Lunenburg are Whalom See also:Lake and Whalom See also:Park, popular See also:pleasure resorts. The See also:principal villages are Leominster, 5 M. S.E. of Fitchburg, and See also:North Leominster; the two adjoin and are virtually one. According to the See also:Special U.S. Census of Manufactures of 1905 the township had in that See also:year a greater diversity of important manufacturing See also:industries than any See also:place of its See also:size in the See also:state, or, probably, in the See also:United States; its 65 manufactories, with a See also:capital of $4,572,726 and with a product for the year valued at $7,501,720 (39%o more than in 1900), produced celluloid and See also:horn See also:work (the manufacture of which is a more important See also:industry here than elsewhere in the United States), celluloid combs, See also:furniture, See also:paper, buttons, pianos and piano-cases, See also:children's carriages and sleds, See also:stationery, leatherboard, worsted, woollen and See also:cotton goods, shirts, paper boxes, &c. Leominster owns and operates its See also:water-See also:works.
