White fish (C. clupeoides), inhabiting the large lakes of See also:North See also:Wales and the north of See also:England. At Ullswater it is known by the name of " schelly," at See also:Loch See also:Lomond by that of " powen." It is tolerably abundant in See also:Lake See also:Bala, keeping to the deepest portion of the lake for the greater See also:part of the See also:year, but appearing in shoals near the shores at certain seasons. It is well flavoured, like all the See also:species of Coregonus, but scarcely attains to the See also:weight of a See also:pound.
