See also:Government explorations in the vicinity of this See also:town show it to be See also:rich in minerals, such as See also:iron, See also:copper, See also:coal and See also:petroleum. The See also:line Focshani-Galatz is covered by a very strong line of fortifications, known as the Sereth Line, A See also:congress between See also:Russian and See also:Turkish diplomatists was held near the town in 1772. In the See also:neighbour-See also:hood the See also:Turks suffered a severe defeat from the Austrians and Russians in 1789.
