EBRARD, JOHANNES HEINRICH See also:AUGUST (1818-1888) , See also:German theologian, was See also:born at See also:Erlangen on the 18th of See also:January 1818. He was educated in his native See also:town and at See also:Berlin, and after teaching in a private See also:family became Privatdocent at Erlangen (1841) and then See also:professor of See also:theology at See also:Zurich (1844). In 1847 he was appointed professor of theology at Erlangen, a See also:chair which he resigned in 1861; in 1875 he became pastor of the See also:French reformed See also:church in the same See also:city. As a critic Ebrard occupied a very moderate standpoint; as a writer his See also:chief See also:works were Christliche Dogmatik (2 vols., 1851), Vorlesungen caber praktische Theologie (1864), Apologetik (1874-1875, Eng.' trans. 1886). He also edited and completed H. See also:Olshausen's commentary, himself See also:writing the volumes on the See also:Epistle to the See also:Hebrews, the Johannine Epistles, and See also:Revelation. In the See also:department of belles-lettres he wrote a See also:good See also:deal under such pseudonyms as See also:Christian See also:Deutsch, Gottfried Flammberg and Sigmund See also:Sturm. He died at Erlangen on the 23rd or See also:July 1888.
