Educated at the See also:universities of See also:Heidelberg and See also:Gottingen, he showed an See also:interest in See also:art and visited See also:Italy; but returning to Frankfort he turned his See also:attention to the study of See also:history, and became secretary of the Gesellschaft See also:fur dltere deutsche Geschichtskunde. He was also archivist and then librarian of the See also:city of Frankfort. Bohmer had a See also:great dislike of See also:Prussia and the See also:Protestant faith, and a corresponding See also:affection for See also:Austria and the See also:Roman See also:Catholic See also:Church, to which, however, he did not belong. His See also:critical sense was, perhaps, somewhat warped; but his researches are of great value to students. He died unmarried, at Frankfort, on the 22nd of See also:October 1863. Bohmer's See also:historical See also:work was chiefly concerned with See also:collecting and tabulating charters and other imperial documents of the See also:middle ages. First appeared an abstract, the Regesta chronologico-diplomatica regum atque imperatorum Romanorum 911—1313 (Frankfort, '831), which was followed by the Regesta chronologico-diplomatica Karolorum. See also:Die Urkunden sdmtlicher Karolinger in kurzen Ausziigen (See also:Frank-fort, 1833), and a See also:series of Regesta imperii. For the See also:period 1314—1347 (Frankfort, 1839) the Regesta was followed by three, and for the period 1246—1313 (Frankfort, 1844) by two supplementary volumes. The remaining period of the Regesta, as edited by Bohmer, is 1198—1254 (See also:Stuttgart, '849).

These collections contain introductions and explanatory passages by the author. Very valuable also is the Fontes rerum Germanicarum (Stuttgart, '843—1868), a collection of See also:

original authorities for German history during the 13th and 14th centuries. The See also:fourth and last See also:volume of this work was edited by A. See also:Huber after the author's See also:death. Other collections edited by Bohmer are: Die Reichsgesetze 900—1400 (Frankfort, 1832); Wittelsbachische Regesten von der Erwerbung See also:des Herzogtums Bayern bis zu 1340 (Stuttgart, 1854); and Codex diplomaticus Moeno-Francofurtanus. Urkundenbuch der Reichsstadt Frankfurt (Frankfort, '836; new edition by F. See also:Law, 1901). Other volumes and See also:editions of the Regesta imperii, edited by J. Ficker, E. Muhlbacher, E. See also:Winkelmann and others, are largely based on Bohmer's work. Bohmer See also:left a great amount of unpublished material, and after his death two other See also:works were published from his papers: Acta imperii selecta, edited by J.
